Funding & Sustainability.
Building community wellness infrastructure takes more than passion — it takes resources, planning, and a long-term commitment to sustainability. Our Mobile Wellness Research Project is designed not only to gather data but also to build a replicable, financially sound model that can sustain itself far beyond its first year.
Launch Budget: $350,000 (Year 1)
Our first-year launch budget ensures that every essential element — from mobile units to staffing and operations — is fully equipped to deliver measurable results.
Capital Expenses
-
2 Mobile Units (purchase + customization): $120,000
Each mobile unit is designed to serve as a fully equipped wellness hub, capable of delivering chiropractic care, health screenings, and nutrition resources directly to Oakland neighborhoods. Customization includes interior refitting, equipment integration, and community branding. -
Equipment (health screening, refrigeration, sound): $30,000
Includes medical-grade equipment for blood pressure and glucose testing, refrigeration units for fresh food storage, and sound systems for on-site wellness education and community engagement.
Operations (Year 1)
-
Staff Salaries (2 Unit Managers, 1 Program Director): $150,000
A dedicated professional team ensures consistent program delivery, data collection, and coordination with academic and community partners. -
Student Stipends (15 students, 6 months): $100,000
Paid opportunities for local students provide hands-on experience in community wellness, data collection, and outreach — building the next generation of health equity leaders. -
Fresh Food Procurement: $30,000
Funds for purchasing and distributing fresh, healthy food in neighborhoods identified as food deserts. -
Fuel, Maintenance, Supplies: $20,000
Covers ongoing operational costs, ensuring the mobile units remain active, safe, and reliable throughout the year.
Funding Sources
To launch and sustain this project, we are leveraging a diverse mix of funding streams that reflect both community trust and financial resilience:
-
Founding Investors — including personal injury attorneys and medical facilities committed to advancing equitable healthcare.
-
Foundation Grants — from organizations focused on public health innovation, food justice, and wellness access.
-
Corporate Sponsorships — ethical partnerships with businesses that align with our mission and values.
-
Individual Donations — contributions from community members who believe in building lasting health infrastructure.
-
Advertising Revenue (vehicle wraps) — limited, values-based sponsorships featured on mobile units, ensuring all sponsors meet strict ethical guidelines.
This blended funding model creates stability while keeping the program deeply rooted in community accountability.
Sustainability Plan
This initiative isn’t a short-term grant project that fades after two years. It’s permanent infrastructure — designed to grow, evolve, and sustain itself based on real data and proven outcomes.
After the first year of implementation and research, we will use the results to:
-
Apply for larger grants backed by verified data and measurable community impact.
-
Expand corporate partnerships with mission-aligned businesses committed to long-term community health.
-
Pursue government contracts that recognize and fund mobile wellness as a proven public health strategy.
-
Build an endowment to ensure financial stability and the continuation of community wellness services for generations to come.
Our ultimate goal is to make this model self-sustaining — so that Oakland’s mobile wellness network continues to grow and serve without being dependent on short-term funding cycles. By combining academic rigor, community trust, and diversified funding, we are laying the foundation for lasting, equitable health infrastructure that Oakland — and other cities — can depend on.
