When we launched Hands for Life, our vision was simple but powerful: to bring health, dignity, and hope to communities across Oakland that often lack access to essential wellness services. Over time, that vision has grown into something truly transformative not just a mobile clinic, but a movement. A movement that says health is a right, not a privilege.
Our Mobile Wellness Unit is more than a van with equipment. It’s a gathering place a place where neighbors meet, families connect, and wellness becomes part of everyday life. We bring fresh produce, clean water, health screenings, and education directly into neighborhoods that have been undeserved for too long. And we do it with respect, compassion, and cultural humility.
What makes Hands for Life special isn’t just what we provide, but who we are, a community led initiative rooted in trust. Our Urban Wellness Advocates are young people from Oakland, many of whom grew up here. They are not only delivering care they are building a future: learning real health skills, coaching their peers, and helping their own neighborhoods thrive.
