Welcome to Hands for Life Lake Merritt, a community‑driven movement dedicated to re‑imagining health and wellness in Oakland’s neighborhoods. We believe that where you live should never determine how long you live.
Here, we’re building more than programs. We’re building lasting infrastructure, rooted in care, equity, and community leadership. From mobile wellness units and fresh food access to youth empowerment and neighborhood‑led health initiatives everything we do is designed to meet people where they are and stand by them long‑term.

Since 2015, we have offered heavily discounted Chiropractic care in our Office space to students, young parents, people on a tight budget and service care providers who serve our community and see the value of caring for themselves so they can care for others.

Hands for Life began with a simple idea: that health and dignity are human rights, not privileges. From small beginnings in local neighborhoods, we’ve grown into a global movement of volunteers, healthcare professionals, educators, and community leaders — all dedicated to showing up where we’re needed most.
We partner with communities, listen to their needs, and provide hands-on care and long-term support that transforms lives.

Our mission is to build equitable access to holistic healthcare, fresh food, and wellness resources for Oakland’s most vulnerable communities. We do this through direct service, youth empowerment, and the development of community-led infrastructure that fosters long-term health, resilience, and self-determination.
Our mission entails restoration of health, dignity, and opportunity to undeserved communities by focusing on three key areas:

We envision a city where Oakland’s youth have paid career pathways in community wellness, and where wellness infrastructure is permanent, sustainable, and not reliant on temporary funding or grants.
